Covid-19 Design Research

With the COVID-19 Pandemic taking a disproportionate toll on minority communities, we must rethink how we design and research data. It is crucial that we start advocating for open channels of information, allowing us a deeper understanding of inequalities in the healthcare system, and giving us a clear course of action. In this Dashboard (with data from the Covid Tracking Project and data.gov) I show just how the Latino and Black populations in 4 New York counties continue to be unequally affected. Unfortunately the NY government has not provided a breakdown of cases, making it difficult to see the full impact on these communities.

Workplace Covid-19 As a part of the Practice Area Leaders and re-entry strategy at PE we collaborated to create firmwide guidelines to deal with the eventual return to the office. To this end, I created a simulation script on grasshopper to evaluate the 6 feet separation guideline in stationary workstations, and we found out that higher risk of contagion will happen in the hours of the day that requires everyone to use the ciculations spaces such as entry and lunch break. Therefore, we recommend a differentiated entry hours for a 30 percent occupancy ratio in addition to mask and distance measures. This Simulation helped to understand how challenging is to implement the 6 feet in traditional work settings an the need to redesign our workspaces

Institutional Cancer Data Benchmark

In this Benchmark Study, we were asked to benchmark differences between Cancer Patient Volume in the USA and China. After that, we query the information of an institution’s public data to understand how a regional network is prepared to address current and future needs of a community in terms of illness and health. As a result, we were able to develop a plan for an equivalent network in a Chinese Territory, addressing cultural differences and an increased volume.
